Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

March 26th, 2007

My new favorite author this week is Stephenie Meyer, author of Twilight, which I just finished reading yesterday. I was a dork all weekend and could not stop reading this book! It is 498 pages long – I normally don’t read anything that long but it went really fast! Also, I normally don’t read vampire books, but this is more of a mystery/love story than a creepy vampire book – nothing like the Cirque du Freak series (which is also good, but just in a different way).

The main characters in this book are Bella (Isabella) and Edward. Bella just moved to a dreary, rainy town in Washington state called ForksĀ from sunny Arizona. She never really had a lot of friends or any boyfriends before, but makes lots of girlfriends right away and gets asked out by three boys (she turns them all down) as soon as she moves to Forks. She is strangely attracted to Edward Cullen – this sort-of weird, but very handsome guy. Well, it turns out that he likes her, too, but he’s a vampire. You’ll have to read it to see what happens…And there’s a sequel, New Moon. I’m going to buy that one this week and you can check it out after spring break!

Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix

March 12th, 2007

If you like Margaret Peterson Haddix’s “Shadow Children” series (Among the Hidden, etc.) you will LOVE Double Identity! This book is full of twists and turns. Bethany is about to turn thirteen and her parents are acting completely weird. One night, her mom and dad put her in the car and drive all night to the home of an aunt she didn’t even know existed and left her there! You won’t believe what Bethany has to go through and what she finds out about her parents’ many secrets.
